Our Farm
Situated on picturesque sloping hillsides on the Stanley plateau in the sub alpine area of North East Victoria, High Grove is surrounded by bush. Being 800 metres above sea level, Stanley has a cooler climate and is a well-known fruit-growing region – many say that the best quality fruit comes out of this area.
Tony & Carmelina Iaria and sons purchased High Grove in February 2007 to expand their family farming enterprise. The Iaria family have a background in horticulture and agriculture and still have farming property in Mount Beauty where they run beef cattle, grow lucerne and have a small scale chestnut operation. Tony and Carmelina also have had experience in hospitality running restaurants and a hotel.
The property has been extensively ‘tidied’ and landscaped since the family moved in. The berries are thriving with very healthy plants and much bigger berries that have more flavour – Tony attributes this to using organic fertilisers and his move towards organic farming at High Grove.
Apart from the Pick-Your-Own Berries and Cherries operation the property is the second largest chestnut producer in the region.
High Grove is a certified member of Freshcare Limited, which is an on-farm food safety program for fresh produce. High Grove chestnuts also carry the eezi-peel trademark.
We are open to the public from mid December to late January for the berry and cherry season, and by appointment in March and April during the chestnut season. Visitors are welcome at other times by appointment only as we are a busy working farm.
